Went back to work after a nice holiday yesterday, but I’ll keep the fun going for a while longer with “gaming season”: every year at this time, while it’s still so dark and wintry, I regularly get together virtually with old friends who live far away and we cheerfully play extremely violent video games like Doom, Borderlands, and Gears of War (the more fanciful ones where the targets are monsters and aliens; the realistic war games have never been our cup of tea).
There’s a twist this year, though: a new generation of players. My friends kids are starting to play with us! Which is a bit surreal. But charming.
It’s weird trash-talking a 6-year-old, though. “You call that a head shot?! Hold my beer, kid…”
