The Favourite: micro review

The Favourite is surreal and strange, but whimsical enough not to be too frustrating in its oddness.  A script and cast dominated by women makes it worthwhile… and these particular women are amazing.  Olivia Colman certainly earned her Oscar (watch her adorable acceptance speech!), and I’m glad to have seen her in this role before she takes the baton from Claire Foy in The Crown.

The Favourite is also bleak and harsh, though! Basically a portrait of an utterly miserable monarch. Brace yourself for a bit of a psychic assault.
