Ignoring the to-do list
Surprisingly often, it seems like the only way I can get anything important done is to ignore my to-do list…which apparently doesn’t reflect my true priorities. After years of refining it. Hmm. I wonder how long I’m going to keep working on this?
For me, this is particularly true of writing. The most important thing I need to be doing every day is to just study and write, study and write, study and write. And yet somehow this simple priority is not well-represented in my to-do lists, which are chock-a-block with things than undeniably need doing, like “take the trash out” and “backup the customer database” and “post something awesome on Facebook and then spend too much time commenting on it while my true goals in life slip through my fingers”…
