Know it all

Every notice that everyone seems to think their particular area of expertise and interest is disastrously neglected in public education? That everyone should at least be introduced to the basics of their field by high school at the latest?

They aren’t wrong: we all should know a little more about every single important subject there is, and the sooner the better. It’s just that there’s so many. Human knowledge has advanced to the point where you can subdivide it into approximately several thousand such worthy obligations. A fact of modern life is that we are all inevitably going to be ignorant of the basics of many important things unless we all go to school for 46 years.
